Parliament to mark Glenrothes’s 70th Birthday

The town’s MSP, Jenny Gilruth, has organised a reception in the Scottish Parliament in June to celebrate Glenrothes’s 70th Birthday.

The MSP has led a campaign to promote celebrations across Glenrothes for the occasion, with a number of projects being recognised by local schools and community groups.

Jenny Gilruth has also launched a poetry competition as part of the celebrations, entitled ‘What does Glenrothes mean to me’. The winning poem will be read out at the Parliament event in June and the winner will have the chance to recite the poem on the night. Entries close on Friday the 1st of June.

Commenting ahead of the event, the MSP said:

“The town’s 70th Birthday is an important milestone in the story of Glenrothes. Across the town community groups and schools have been working hard to mark the Birthday.

“Hosting this event in Parliament will allow for these groups and individuals to be recognised in the appropriate way – with a celebration in our national parliament.

The reception is set to be a great success with over 100 guests in attendance, it will include musical entertainment from local schools, stories from Glenrothes residents as featured by the Scottish Book Trust’s digi-stories and the winner of Jenny Gilruth’s poetry competition to be announced.
