MSP Praises Success of Glenrothes Birthday Celebrations
Glenrothes MSP Jenny Gilruth has praised the success of the official Glenrothes 70th Birthday celebrations, which took place on Saturday.
The MSP was one of the many people who attended the event in Warout Stadium at the weekend. The event featured live music, a separate children’s event and representation from community groups across the town. Commenting the MSP said:
‘It was an absolute pleasure to attend the town’s official Birthday celebrations on Saturday. There was a real festival feel to the occasion – but it was also great to see young people enjoying themselves on the bouncy castles & trampolines.
I took the time to speak to community groups including the Foodbank, Auchmuty Community Garden and the British Legion. It was great to see so many familiar faces celebrating Glenrothes’ special birthday & enjoying the glorious sunshine.
My thanks go to all involved in organising the event and to Fife Police for all their help on the day’.
Jenny Gilruth has also lodged a motion to Parliament to mark the occasion. A copy of which is noted below:
That the Parliament celebrates the 70th anniversary of Glenrothes; notes that, since 1948, Glenrothes has become an established community, home to Fife’s third largest population; acknowledges the efforts of local schools and community groups, which have come together to organise a range of projects ensuring that the occasion is celebrated; understands that Glenrothes was the first of Scotland’s new towns to have a resident town artist, and that the area’s vibrant sculptures have become internationally renowned; considers that Glenrothes has continued to find success with regular accolades from Britain in Bloom and Keep Scotland Beautiful, most notably being named Scotland’s most beautiful town in 2012, and welcomes this important milestone in the town’s rich history as Glenrothes continues to grow and develop.
