MOTION TO WELCOME WALK TO SCHOOL WEEK 2017

Published date : 15 May 2017

Jenny Gilruth MSP has lodged a motion (S5M-05605: “Walk to School Week”) asking the Scottish Parliament to welcome Walk to School Week 2017.

The motion text reads:

“That the Parliament welcomes Walk to School Week, which takes place in Scotland between 15 and 19 May 2017; understands that the number of children who walk to school in Scotland has dropped from approximately 56% to 46%; notes the success of Living Street’s Walk to School Week, where over 75% of pupils regularly travel to school by foot, scooter, cycle or park and stride, and acknowledges that walking to school can improve the physical and mental health of children, young people, parents and carers, and provide children and young people with a greater sense of independence and self-confidence.”
