MOTION TO CONGRATULATE THE FIFE OLYMPIAD 2017 TEAM

Jenny Gilruth MSP has lodged a motion (S5M-06950: “Fife Olympiad Team Wins Award”) asking the Scottish Parliament to congratulate the 2017 Fife Olympiad team on winning the Fair Play award at the Twin Town Olympiad event in Boblingen, Germany.
The motion text reads:
“That the Parliament congratulates the Fife Olympiad team on winning the Fair Play award at the Twin Town Olympiad event in Boblingen, Germany; understands that the Twin Town Olympiad, which was first held in Glenrothes in 1977 to commemorate the twin town arrangement between Glenrothes and Boblingen, sees a team of young Fifers head to one of Boblingen’s twin towns every three years for the triennial sports tournament; acknowledges that around 1,500 young people competed in the tournament, including competitors from Pontoise in France, Sittard-Geleen in the Netherlands, Bergama in Turkey, Krems an der Donau in Austria, Alba in Italy and Sommerda in Germany, as well as from across Fife; applauds all of Fife’s medal winners; commends the efforts of all 167 young people from schools across Fife who participated in helping to earn Fife the Fair Play award, which positively represents both Fife and Scotland on the international stage; commends the support from all of the local schools, PE teachers, sports clubs and volunteers that supported the Fife Olympiad team, and looks forward to the next Twin Town Olympiad event in 2020.”
