MID-FIFE MSP VISITS NEW KINGLASSIE GIFT SHOP

Published date : 17 May 2019

Mid-Fife and Glenrothes MSP Jenny Gilruth today (17th May) visited the recently opened Chandlers Attic gift shop in Kinglassie.

Launched at the end of March this year, the enterprise centres around owner Catherine’s TabeScent candle business and the work of a large range of other local Fife hobbyists and crafters. The gift shop stocks products from small independent Scottish businesses and gives them an opportunity to sell their work in a retail setting which they otherwise may not have been able to do so.

The owner of Chandlers Attic, Catherine Fotheringham, said:

“Having run my candle business TabeScent from home for a while, and only selling online or at craft fairs, I was starting to outgrow my kitchen and was looking for a space where I could make my products.

“I saw the opportunity to make it a proper gift shop, that not only sold my TabeScent products, but those of other local Scottish hobbyists, makers, crafters and artists, giving them an opportunity to sell their work in a retail setting too. I’m now exceptionally proud to offer a gift shop full of quirky, local, handmade products to my community.”

Commenting on the new small business initiative in her constituency, Jenny Gilruth MSP, said:

“I was delighted to visit Chandlers Attic in Kinglassie today and meet with the owner Catherine Fotheringham.

“Catherine has done some fantastic work converting the premises into a retail space and as a result the shop has a very warm and welcoming atmosphere.

“Small businesses like this are the bread and butter of local communities and I wish Catherine and all the other local Fife artists and crafters continued success.”

Increasingly over the past few years, the Scottish Government has been providing funding for small businesses like Chandlers Attic, in the form of grants and bursaries. In 2019, there are over 220 different grant types available to small businesses based in Scotland for a wide range of different business venture and projects.

Chandlers Attic is open daily Tuesday – Saturday. For more information on shop and their chandlers, please take a look at the website: www.chandlersattic.co.uk
