MSP VISITS NEW 3G PITCH

Glenrothes MSP, Jenny Gilruth, was delighted to visit the new indoor football arena at the Michael Woods Sports and Leisure Centre recently.

The only facility of its kind in Fife, the new facilities offer a 3G football pitch with markings for seven-a-side and five-a-side for matches.

The MSP was given a tour of sports centre by Area Manager, Sharon Johnstone, taking the time to test her own footballing ability on the new surface. (Pictured)

Funded by Fife Council and Sportscotland, the indoor arena is built next to existing outdoor facilities such as the running track.

Commenting on the visit, Jenny Gilruth MSP, said:

“I was delighted to visit the new 3G pitch based at the Michael Woods centre in Glenrothes. It was great to learn more about how 3G pitches work in practice and to have a go at kicking the ball myself on the new surface.

“There are some amazing facilities on offer at the Michael Woods Centre - it’s hard to remember this is the former site of the Fife Institute as I remember it from my own school days. Sport is hugely important in developing good mental health and social skills - I hope this new facility will be used by the community to nurture sporting talent for the future’.

Sharon Johnstone, area leisure manager, for Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, said:

“The new indoor football facility at Michael Woods Sports and Leisure Centre is a great addition to the range of facilities and programmes already on offer to customers.

“The training facility will be available for casual bookings as well as becoming an important asset for Fife Football Performance Academy, Fife Elite Football Academy, local clubs, and, ultimately, it will be a great resource for local communities to enjoy the health and wellbeing benefits of getting active.”
