JENNY GILRUTH MSP PRAISES NEWLY-OPENED “BEAUTIFUL NEW BRIDGE”

Published date : 01 Sep 2017

Mid Fife & Glenrothes MSP Jenny Gilruth has welcomed the opening of the new Queensferring Crossing over the Firth of Forth. The bridge opened to traffic for the first time in the early hours of Wednesday 30th August. Ms Gilruth will attend the official opening on Monday 4th September.

Commenting, Jenny Gilruth MSP said:

“The Queensferry Crossing is a marvel of modern engineering which we should all be proud of.

“In December 2015 when the road bridge closure caused travel chaos for commuters and business across the Kingdom, we were all reminded just how vital the new bridge would be to Fife’s future.

“The new crossing will vastly improve crucial connection times between Fife and the capital. It was the SNP in Government who took direct action to scrap the bridge tolls which unfairly penalised Fifers. Once again we have seen resolute action from my party – a feat of modern engineering – linking the Kingdom to the capital and beyond.

“I’d also like to take this opportunity to commend the hard work of the engineers and skilled professionals involved in the construction of the new crossing. Having visited the site last summer I know only too well how hard those involved worked to deliver this project – and indeed, under budget. Fife is proud of their efforts and proud of Scotland’s beautiful new bridge.”
