Published date : 26 Jul 2019

Jenny Gilruth MSP has today (26th July) welcomed the announcement that the YMCA Glenrothes has been awarded a total of £171,75 by the National Lottery Community Fund.

The YMCA, which has been providing learning and leisure opportunities in the local community for over 60 years.  They offer a wide range of social support projects such supported accommodation, renovation programmes and art classes.

The organisation will use the grant to re-develop the back courts of the homeless accommodation in Alexander Road, Glenrothes into a healthy living garden.

The aim of the healthy living garden development is to benefit not only the residents of the accommodation, but also the residents of the female homeless accommodation in the South Parks area, and the residents of the Our Place area in Fife.

Commenting on the funding success, Jenny Gilruth MSP said:

“I am delighted at the fantastic news of this huge funding grant that has been awarded to the YMCA Glenrothes – a very important organisation in my constituency.

“I am pleased to see that the new funding is going to enable the organisation to re-develop the back courts on Alexander Road into a healthy living garden for their residents, and the residents of other organisation’s programmes.

“The YMCA provides vital support to the local community through the various projects they run and are a pillar of assistance to those who need support in difficult times.  I wish all involved continued success in the future.”

YMCA Glenrothes manager, Mary Hill, added:

“Already we have had lots of offers of volunteering for this new phase of development for the Auchmuty area.

“The Garden project brings so many benefits for young people in supported accommodation and local Auchmuty residents alike; getting fit through the outdoor gym, socialising with families in the new playpark, learning DIY, gardening and environmental awareness skills in the Garden.”

Last year The National Lottery Community Fund gave out over £48m of National Lottery funding to community projects across Scotland. Over 1130 projects benefitted from this, enabling people and communities to bring their ideas to life. To find out more visit www.TNLCommunityFund.org.uk
