Jenny Gilruth MSP has today announced plans for a public meeting with ScotRail’s Chief Executive, Alex Hynes, on Tuesday 27 August from 6.00 pm at Drummonds Hotel in Markinch.

The MSP has organised the meeting in response to complaints from her constituents regarding the Fife Circle and services from Markinch to Edinburgh.

Constituents can join Jenny in raising issues with services to and from Glenrothes with Thornton and Markinch railway stations directly with ScotRail bosses.

ScotRail’s Chief Operating Officer, Angus Thom, and Network Rail’s Chief Operating Officer, Liam Sumpter, will also be in attendance to answer questions.

After spending a morning speaking with commuters outside Glenrothes with Thornton station, Jenny said:

“I am pleased to be able to offer my constituents the chance to put their questions and issues directly to rail bosses.

“I will be looking to Alex Hynes and his team to listen to my constituents’ concerns and commit to delivering the reliable and affordable rail service Fife needs.”

Constituents who would like to attend should email with their name and address using the subject “ScotRail public meeting” or call Jenny’s constituency office on 01592 764815.

Attendees will have the chance to put their questions directly to Alex Hynes but are also welcome to send questions to Jenny in advance for her to ask on their behalf.

  • Last year Markinch train station was reported as one of the worst performing in Scotland, with only 66.7% of trains stopping in arriving within 5 minutes of their scheduled time.
  • In September 2018 it was reported that the 4.34pm Edinburgh to Perth service, which also calls in Markinch, was the most overcrowded train in the country.
  • Fifers also pay on average £5 more per mile for every journey to the capital compared to those travelling from Glasgow.
