GLENROTHES MSP HOSTS SUMMIT WITH CABINET SECRETARY ON TOWN CENTRE’S FUTURE

Glenrothes MSP, Jenny Gilruth, is to welcome the Scottish government cabinet secretary for Transport, Infrastructure and Connectivity, Michael Matheson MSP to the Kingdom Centre next week (Thursday, 25th October). Mr Matheson’s Government portfolio includes town centres.

The visit follows calls from Jenny Gilruth MSP to Kingdom Centre owners, Mars Pensions Trustees, to provide greater investment in the town centre. The MSP reached out to local businesses after a number contacted her office expressing their discontent over rent increases and a lack of communication from town centre bosses.

Ms Gilruth requested a visit from the Scottish Government to discuss the town centre’s future. The Cabinet Secretary will meet with members of the Glenrothes Area Residents Federation (GARF) next Thursday.

Ms Gilruth will then chair a question and answer session with the Cabinet Secretary, opening out the visit to interested local residents and stakeholders.

The Glenrothes MSP has encouraged members of the town’s community to make the most of the Cabinet Secretary’s visit and to be a part of a positive discussion about the Kingdom Centre and the community.

Commenting ahead of the visit, Jenny Gilruth MSP said:

“In Glenrothes’ 70th anniversary year I know people are proud of our town. But folk also know it could be so much better if the owners of the Kingdom Centre took their responsibilities more seriously and invested in the fabric of our town.

“I am looking forward to welcoming the Cabinet Secretary to Glenrothes next week. I hope the visit can help stimulate constructive discussion regarding the future of the Kingdom Centre.

“Groups like GARF are hugely important to communities like ours, offering a voice for local residents and tenants. It would be fantastic to see other members of the community here in Glenrothes take the opportunity to raise their concerns, and aspirations for our town, with the Cabinet Secretary.”

Leslie Bain of Glenrothes Area Residents Federation said:

“GARF are delighted to see the Cabinet Secretary visit Glenrothes. I hope the visit will help bring the community together with the aim of revitalising our town centre.”

Interested residents are invited to attend the event from 9.45am to 10.30am, Room 10 in the Rothes Halls.

Those who wish to attend are asked to RSVP to 01592 764815.
