FIFE MAGGIE’S CENTRE COMMENDED BY LOCAL MSP

Published date : 16 May 2019

Mid-Fife and Glenrothes MSP, Jenny Gilruth, recently paid a visit to the local Fife Maggie’s centre at Victoria Hospital, to commend all the staff and their vital work and to learn more about the positive impact that the Maggie’s centre has across Fife.

‘Maggie’s’ Centres began in Edinburgh in 1996, and following the success of the pilot initiative, expanded across to all major NHS cancer hospitals in both the UK and abroad. Maggie’s provides free emotional, practical and social support to people with cancer and their families and friends.

Following her visit, Jenny Gilruth MSP said:

“I was delighted to visit the Fife Maggie’s Centre to witness for myself all of the fantastic work they do for the local community and the lives of those touched by cancer.

Any family who has been affected by cancer will understand the need to treat those affected with dignity and compassion and the need for wider support. It’s so important that places like this exist and I’d like to thank all the staff at Maggie’s in Kirkcaldy for the vital work they do across Fife – and I wish them every continued success.”

Maggie’s Centres are informal and laid back and are places for cancer sufferers, survivors and their loved ones to find practical advice and emotional support, meet other people, or simply find solace with a cup of tea.

Alison Allan, the manager of the Fife Maggie’s centre, added:

“It was lovely having Jenny in our centre. It means so much to us to have MSPs visiting to find out more about how we support people living with cancer a cross the Fife region and, even more importantly, to know that Jenny will now hopefully tell anyone affected by cancer how they might pop into their nearest Maggie’s.”

Anyone affected by cancer is welcome to attend a Maggie’s centre. For more information, please click on the link: https://www.maggiescentres.org/
