Transport Scotland have today (Friday 17th May) published the final report of the Preliminary Options Appraisal regarding the Levenmouth Sustainable Transport Study.  The report includes re-opening the Leven rail link to passengers and freight as one of the potential options.

Following this most recent development, Leven MSP Jenny Gilruth commented:

“I welcome the encouraging options that have today been published by Transport Scotland and Peter Brett Associates in the Levenmouth Preliminary Options Appraisal report.

“Recommended options 5 and 6 in the appraisal report certainly support the campaign’s main goal of securing a functional rail link, and, following my Member’s Debate in 2017 on the matter, I am pleased that Transport Scotland are responding with these proposed options.

“I continue to believe re-establishing Leven’s rail link would be transformational for my constituency. I will continue to do all in my power to ensure the Scottish Government listen to the needs of my constituents and commit to the Levenmouth Rail Link.”

The publication sits alongside today’s second ‘walk the line’ event of the old railway line.  The walk, which was organised by the Levenmouth Rail Link Campaign, was attended by local politicians and by local primary school classes, with the hope of maintaining awareness about the campaign.

Jenny Gilruth MSP’s members’ debate in September 2017 led to an assurance from the previous transport minister, Humza Yousaf, that the options appraisal be taken forward. Since then, Leven’s MSP continued to press the case for the line’s reinstatement - through parliamentary questions and in debates.

Peter Brett Associates explained that in the creation of their plans, new technology was being utilised and Transport Scotland officials maintained that this new technology would be able to provide a robust evidence-base for decision making and address concerns Scottish Ministers have had over previous studies.
