Title: NHS Fife, First in Scotland to Provide Day-case Hip Surgery

Motion Text:

That the Parliament congratulates NHS Fife on becoming the first NHS board to successfully pilot day-surgery hip replacement; understands that the average length of hospital stay for this procedure in Fife is three days, but that this new technique reduces it to less than 12 hours; acknowledges that the enhanced recovery process was developed in Copenhagen and veers away from the traditional use of spinal anaesthetic in favour of a localised numbing; welcomes the assurance that patient safety or quality of care has never been compromised throughout the project; congratulates Michael Sullivan. who is from Kennoway, on being the first person in Scotland to undergo the new technique; sends Michael its best wishes for a speedy recovery, and hopes that NHS Fife enjoys every success in developing this and other such procedures.
