Publised date : 25 Jun 2019
That the Parliament congratulates the neuroscientist, Marie Short, who is from Glenrothes, on being appointed an MBE in The Queen’s Birthday Honours in recognition of her services to supporting people living with Huntington’s disease (HD); notes that Marie has been a trustee with the Scottish Huntington’s Association (SHA) for five years, volunteering both her professional expertise as a former regulatory affairs clinical trials manager and her own experience as someone who lives in a family affected by the condition; acknowledges that the association supports nearly 150 people affected by HD across Fife; understands that Marie and her three siblings all inherited the gene; acknowledges that her brother, Hunter, passed away five years ago aged just 50 while her two sisters are being cared for in nursing homes; commends Marie’s fundraising efforts for SHA, including collecting £10,000 by walking the West Highland Way, participating in the English Coast to Coast Cycle, trekking in Nepal and taking part in the association's initiative, #MyZenRun, which saw people participate in a 30-day virtual running event to mark its 30th anniversary, and sends its best wishes to Marie and her sisters.
