LGBTI Inclusive Education

Publised date : 22 Nov 2018

Motion Text: That the Parliament welcomes the guidance, Curriculum Inclusion: LGBT Mapping Across Curriculum for Excellence, produced by LGBT Youth Scotland; notes that this guidance has been released the same month that the Scottish Government made significant commitments to LGBTI inclusive education and welcomes this as being a positive step to realise this ambition; understands that, in 2017, 52% of LGBT young people reported their place of education to be the place they most experienced discrimination; hopes that, through the integration of the recommendations within this guidance, LGBTI learners and families will feel more included and valued, leading to improvements in their wellbeing and achievements; welcomes the interdisciplinary learning examples that help incorporate LGBTI voices into existing topic areas, and hopes to see teachers implement learning from the guidance as soon as is practicable.
