Auchmuty High School Digital Workshop First in Scotland

Publised date : 05 Feb 2019

Motion Text:

That the Parliament welcomes the interactive digital workshop organised by Auchmuty High School’s Head of Computing Science, Jamie Edgar, which it understands was the first of its kind in Scotland with more than 200 girls taking part; notes that the all-day event was inspired by the Tata Consultancy Services Digital Explorers event, which was held in Edinburgh 2018; understands that the pupils were highly engaged with the outcomes of each activity, which focused on challenging the girls at the right level for their age groups; considers that, by the time girls enter senior year in school, there is a real difference in which subjects are being picked, and that those included in organising the event hope that by engaging with young girls at an earlier stage of their education they can begin to address gender imbalances, particularly within STEM subjects, and wishes all of those involved in the event the best of luck with any future projects.
