NHS FIFE MEETS FOUR HOUR A&E WAITING TIMES TARGET

New figures show that NHS FIFE met its waiting times target in the second week of February – with 97.8% seen, admitted or discharged within four hours, beating the Scottish Government’s 95% target. Attendances at Scotland’s A&E departments this winter were the highest in a decade, and the number of people going to A&E across the country in the latest week rose by 1,101 compared to the same week last year as winter pressures and flu-like illness have impacted numbers. Despite these challenges however, around nine out of ten patients are still being admitted, discharged or transferred within four hours which is testament to the hard work of healthcare staff right across Scotland.

Commenting, Jenny Gilruth MSP for Mid Fife & Glenrothes said:

“Scotland has had the best performing A&E departments in the UK for nearly 3 years now – which is a testament to the hard work of our NHS staff.

“It is extremely encouraging that Emergency Departments in NHS Fife have met the four hour waiting times target, with the latest figures showing that 97.8% of patients are being seen within four hours.

“The Scottish Government is ensuring record investment and record levels of staffing in our hospitals with, with plans to lift the pay cap for NHS staff and invest over £400 million extra in Health in the 2018/19 budget.

“We will always value the vital work done by our NHS staff – and we should always celebrate their success and continue to support their efforts in NHS Fife”
