MSP CALLS FOR LUNDIN LINKS POST OFFICE REASSURANCE

Mid Fife and Glenrothes MSP has written to the Post Office asking for a reassurance about the future of postal services Lundin Links after the company announced that the village post office will close in January.

Ms Gilruth received a letter from Network Operations Manager, Graham Turnock which stated that the closure would just be “temporary” and was due to the resignation of the Postmaster.

The letter further stated that measures were being taken “to explore the options available to reinstate a Post Office Service to the local community”.

In her response to Mr Turnock Ms Gilruth said: “I do have concerns about the loss of this very valuable service, however temporary and how this closure will impact on my constituents.

“This post office is situated in a small, semi-rural village and is well used by the whole community in which there is a high proportion of elderly residents without access to their own transport.

“Good access to local services is especially important in the winter months and in many cases it is simply not feasible or practical for some individuals to make the journey to their nearest post offices in Leven or Methil.”

In closing, Ms Gilruth urged Post Office to commit to finding a new location in the village as soon as possible and asked that she be kept informed of all future developments.
