LOCAL MSP PRAISES PITCOUDIE PRIMARY SCHOOL COMMUNITY INITIATIVE TO SPRUCE UP RETIREMENT HOME GARDEN

Published date : 09 May 2019

Mid-Fife and Glenrothes MSP, Jenny Gilruth, visited Pitcoudie Primary School last Monday (29th April) to present the Headteacher and Primary 7 pupils with the parliamentary motion she lodged the week previously about a gardening project undertaken at a local care home.

Recently, a group of Primary 7 pupils reached out to the Bield Inchkeith Court Retirement Home with an offer to renovate its community garden. The schoolkids planted flowers, weeded the garden and hand painted stones with their school crest alongside the name of the retirement home.

It is thought that by renovating the garden will enable the home’s tenants to take full advantage of the outdoor space and features.

Following last Monday’s visit, Headteacher Carol Storrs commented:

“The Primary 7s were delighted to be presented with a parliamentary motion that their local MSP, Jenny Gilruth, had lodged the week previously about their community initiative project and work with the local care home. The pupils valued the time they had to ask Jenny about her role as their MSP, and enjoyed telling her about the other projects they had lined up over the next few weeks.”

This local project forms part of a larger social enterprise initiative undertaken by children at Pitcoudie Primary School. The initiative sees the school children pledging to carry out a variety of worthwhile projects within the community.

The local MSP, Jenny Gilruth, added:

“I was delighted to visit Pitcoudie Primary School and present them with the motion I lodged in Parliament to mark their hard work at a local retirement home. This was a lovely gesture by the school and helped to maintain a pleasant environment for some of our senior citizens. The pupils and school should be very proud of their efforts.”
