Local MSP praises Glenrothes Rotary Club response to pandemic

Mid Fife and Glenrothes MSP, Jenny Gilruth, has spoken in praise of Glenrothes Rotary Club’s response to the challenges posed by Covid-19.
The local MSP addressed Rotarians at an in-person evening meeting at the Gilvenbank Hotel and used the opportunity to talk about her work supporting constituents since her re-election as constituency MSP in May’s Scottish Parliament election.
Ms Gilruth also spoke about her work in the Scottish Government since being appointed as Minister for Culture, Europe and International Development by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, highlighting increased Scottish Government funding for partner countries, such as Malawi, and humanitarian support for the people of Afghanistan.
Ms Gilruth also took time to praise the work of Glenrothes Rotary Club, which has a long history of assisting those at home and abroad.
The Rotary’s most recent successful project collected tools and haberdashery for the people of Malawi, via a project run by The Global Concerns Trust and funded by the Scottish Government.
Closer to home, the club has links with three local high schools and more than 20 primary schools and has developed a range of competitions and events for all pupils to take part in.
Glenrothes Rotary Club also organise an annual ‘Kid’s Out’ day, which allows pupils with addition needs in local schools to enjoy a day out.
Commenting after the event, Jenny Gilruth MSP said:
“As always, it was a pleasure to join members of the Glenrothes Rotary Club to talk about my work locally and in government since May.
“Community organisations like Glenrothes Rotary Club have played an invaluable part in our local response to Covid-19. It has been heart-warming to see how our local communities have come together during the pandemic, and the important work of our volunteers cannot be praised enough.
“I see through my casework on a daily basis how the pandemic continues to take its toll on all of us, particularly vulnerable families and individuals. I am so grateful to Glenrothes Rotary for their unstinting commitment to providing assistance and support to those who need it most locally.”

“It was lovely to hear Jenny speak to our club last week. In our own ways, we are both committed to helping people in our local and international communities. Meetings like this give us the opportunity to find out what’s going on and how we can work together. We very much appreciate Jenny’s support.”

The local Glenrothes Rotary Club was formed over 64 years ago in 1957, known first as the ‘Rothes-Fife Rotary Club’ before changing to the ‘Glenrothes Rotary Club’ in 1983.
