Local Communities Given Opportunity to Shape Democracy

Glenrothes MSP Jenny Gilruth has encouraged community groups to join the conversation about community decision-making to help make public services more locally focused.

People across Scotland are being invited to take part in the Democracy Matters conversation to identify new legal rights for communities which would place them at the heart of decision-making.

As part of the conversation people are being invited to consider a short set of questions on shaping local democracy.

Community groups can apply for grants of up to £300 to host their own events related to the project.

Commenting, Jenny Gilruth MSP said:

“This is a terrific opportunity for people and communities in the Glenrothes area to have their say on Scotland’s public services.

“The Democracy Matters conversation is an important mile-stone for community based decision-making in Scotland. The Scottish Government are clear in their belief that more decisions about public services should be taken locally, and that communities should be able to influence those decisions.

“I’d like to encourage community groups in Glenrothes to take advantage of the available funding and get together to ensure their voices are heard regarding decisions they’d like to make in their neighbourhood, town or village, and the kind of arrangements that would help that happen.”
