JENNY GILRUTH MSP WELCOMES PLANNED A92 IMPROVEMENTS

Published date : 29 Aug 2019

Glenrothes MSP, Jenny Gilruth, met with Transport Scotland and BEAR Scotland this week, for an update on planned improvements to the A92. The meeting follows the local politician’s involvement in the A92 campaign, alongside North Glenrothes Community Council.

The meeting focused primarily on the work being undertaken to improve the safety of the Balfarg and Cadham Road junctions, and the Bankhead Roundabout, for both pedestrians and drivers. The improvements planned follow Ms Gilruth’s representations to the previous Transport Minister, when he attended a site visit to Glenrothes in 2018.

At a meeting secured by the Glenrothes MSP in 2018, Humza Yousaf MSP met with members of the North Glenrothes Community Council and Jenny Gilruth MSP to discuss vital road improvements to the A92, in particular at the Balfarg junction and at Cadham.

A survey to assess potential improvements at the Balfarg and Cadham junctions was undertaken by Transport Scotland in May 2019. With increased road safety being the top priority for the local community, the case for reforming the A92 junctions in the area has never been stronger.

Modelling exercises of both Balfarg and Cadham Road junctions is currently underway, and investigations are due to take place at Bankhead Roundabout later this year, with video surveillance being carried out to further assess ways in which safety can be maximised.

Commenting after the meeting, Jenny Gilruth MSP said:

“I was delighted to hear that planned improvements to the A92 at Balfarg and Cadham Road junctions are now confirmed.

“This is certainly welcome news for my constituents.

“Road safety for both pedestrians and drivers alike are, and should always be, a top priority.

“I am grateful that after a long campaign to make the A92 and surrounding areas safer to access, progress is being made and a promising timeline is unfolding”.
