JENNY GILRUTH MSP WELCOMES NEW LOCAL SERVICE BY MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT FOR FIFE PATIENTS
Jenny Gilruth MSP for Mid Fife & Glenrothes has welcomed MacMillan Cancer Support and The Fife Health & Social Care Partnership new £1.1million service called Improving the Cancer Journey, which will help ensure cancer patients across the region can access the support they need. In recognition of this announcement, the MSP has lodged a Parliamentary Motion, which is now gathering cross-party support.
This service will see every newly diagnosed cancer patient in Fife sent a letter offering a meeting with a dedicated one-to-one support worker. The worker will then help the patient access a wide range of support, from benefits advice and emotional support to help at home or with other practical needs.
Commenting, Jenny Gilruth MSP said –
“Although people diagnosed with cancer are living longer, they are often living with long-term effects of treatment or other health conditions that can impact their wellbeing, health and independence. Improving the Cancer Journey service places people at the centre of their care and support. The services support workers are able to offer a wide range of support, signposting to a range of partners working together, depending on the concerns that they have raised. This will help ensure that every one of my constituents living with and beyond cancer can live as well and as independently as possible. I would like to congratulate MacMillan and Fife Health & Social Care Partnership on rolling out this important service”

Launch of the Fife Improving the Cancer Journey
That the Parliament welcomes the launch of Macmillan Cancer Support’s Improving the Cancer Journey programme (ICJ) in Fife; notes that Macmillan and Fife Health and Social Care Partnership have invested £1.1 million into this service; commends the commitment that every newly-diagnosed person in Fife with cancer will be offered a meeting with a dedicated one-to-one support worker, at which they can talk about how they feel, get help with money and housing worries or help at home and whatever else matters to them; understands that, although people diagnosed with cancer are living longer, they are often living with long-term effects of treatment or other health conditions that can impact their wellbeing, health and independence; notes that the support workers are able to offer a wide range of support, signposting to a range of partners working together, depending on the concerns that they have raised; considers that ICJ is service, which places people at the centre of their care and support, and congratulates Macmillan and Fife Health and Social Care Partnership on rolling out this service.
