JENNY GILRUTH MSP WELCOMES NEW INVESTMENT TO SECURE FUTURE OF BIFAB

Published date : 17 Apr 2018

Mid Glenrothes & Fife MSP Jenny Gilruth MSP has today expressed her delight at the news that new investment has been secured for fabrication firm BiFab and its yards in Fife and the Western Isles.

Canadian company DF Barnes, who is part of JV Driver, is one of the country’s largest independently owned industrial construction companies, who intend to rebuild BiFab as a business.

The MSP who has a number of constituents employed at the Burntisland yard has consistently raised the issue of job losses in and around the Levenmouth area since being elected in 2016, and in particular job losses at Diageo, Dunnes and Murray & Murray Bathrooms in her own constituency in over the past number of months.

Commenting on the announcement by the First Minister today Ms Gilruth said

“I am absolutely delighted that a resolution has been found for Bi-fab’s future. This has only been because of the Scottish Government working directly with the trade unions and the workers. These jobs will provide a vital lifeline to my constituency and the wider Fife economy. This is particularly important given that Levenmouth Academy is the second largest recipient of Pupil Equity Fund in the whole of Scotland. Today’s news will be welcomed by the future generation of workers and shows the Scottish’s Govenrment’s commitment to Levenmouth.”

Commenting on the announcement, Scottish Trades Union Congress General Secretary Grahame Smith has said:

“This result is testimony to magnificent worker solidarity, and a strong example of active state intervention in the economy by the Scottish Government.”
