JENNY GILRUTH MSP VISITS MARKINCH APPRENTICES

Published date : 13 Mar 2020

Mid Fife and Glenrothes MSP, Jenny Gilruth, recently paid a visit to Peek-a-Boo nursery in Markinch as part of Skills Development Scotland’s Modern Apprenticeship Week 2020.

Ms Gilruth met a range of childcare apprentices, including Lewis Townsend and Millie Grubb, who are currently working towards their SVQ Level 3 in Social Services (Children and Young People) in partnership with the nursery.

Peek-a-Boo Nursery in Markinch has supported apprentices since it first opened its doors in 2005. Several of these apprentices have gone on to gain a full-time job at nursery at the end of their training.

Skills Development Scotland’s Scottish Apprenticeship Week took place from 2 – 6 March with the theme ‘Talent Without Limits’ to celebrate the diversity that makes work-based learning good for individuals, employers and the economy.

Commenting after the visit, the local MSP said:

“I was absolutely delighted to visit Peek-a-Boo Nursery in Markinch and meet with apprentices as part of Skills Development Scotland’s Modern Apprenticeship Week 2020.

“Peek-a-Boo Nursery are a valuable employer locally and have a strong link with the Modern Apprentice programme.

“Modern Apprenticeships provide an opportunity for employment and training on the job and are a great alternative to staying on at school or going straight into further or higher education.

“Modern Apprentices, such as Lewis Townsend and Millie Grubb, will help to deliver the Scottish Government commitment to expand funded childcare from 600 hours to 1140 hours from August 2020 to all three- and four-year olds and eligible two year olds.”

Angela Kivistik, the Business Manager at Peek-a-Boo Nursery, added:

“It was great to have local MSP, Jenny Gilruth, visit the nursery on Friday to meet our Modern Apprentices as part of Scotland’s Modern Apprenticeship Week 2020.

“Our staff team work together to ensure that we are able to provide a high-quality early learning and childcare service.

“Apprentices form a crucial part of that team and we are pleased to support them as they working towards their SVQ Level 3 qualification.”
