Jenny Gilruth MSP supports Marie Curie Great Daffodil Appeal

Published date : 28 Feb 2019

Mid Fife & Glenrothes MSP Jenny Gilruth has today joined Marie Curie staff and volunteers from across Scotland, including volunteer representatives from the Glenrothes Fundraising Group. The Great Daffodil Appeal takes place throughout March each year.

In Glenrothes in 2017/18 Marie Curie delivered 521 visits to 56 patients, which includes their managed care service is provided to co-ordinate Marie Curie nurses visiting patients houses overnight between 10pm and 7am to provide palliative care. In addition their fast track service provides health and social care support to prevent an at-risk person being admitted to hospital unnecessarily and can help people in hospital get home quicker, if that is their wish.

Commenting Jenny Gilruth MSP says:

“Marie Curie do a wonderful job, locally in my constituency and across Scotland, supporting people living with any terminal illness, and their families. In my constituency alone during 2017/18 – 9,060 people had a palliative care need. Without the expert care, guidance and support from Marie Curie staff and volunteers many would have struggled to cope in their final days. It is important for me and my fellow MSPs to show our support to Marie Curie and recognise the excellent work they do in our communities”

Susan Lowes, Public Affairs Manager added:

“It is fantastic to see so many MSPs support the Great Daffodil Appeal, with many joining our volunteers across the country during February and March. Their support really makes a difference in local collections and encouraging people to support us, as we provide care and support for people and families across Scotland”.
