JENNY GILRUTH MSP GIVES SUPPORT FOR SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY

Mid Fife and Glenrothes MSP, Jenny Gilruth, has offered her support for this weekend’s Small Business Saturday – which encourages people to shop locally and support their local businesses.

Jenny Gilruth paid a visit to Leslie Bike Shop in Glenrothes ahead of Small Business Saturday, and met with owners Andy and Fiona Hain. The family business has been serving Fife’s cycling community for nearly 40 years. Commenting after the visit, Andy Hain said:

“We had a great visit with Jenny, talking about cycling in the area and how bikes have changed over that last 37 years that we have been open.”

“We also discussed the local communities’ use of the bike shop and how it’s down to our great, local customers that we are still going

Small Business Saturday is now in its sixth year in the UK, and in 2017 an estimated £748m was spent with small businesses on the first Saturday of December.

Figures from the Scottish Government show there are 9,590 small enterprises across Fife – contributing £3,279 million to the local economy.

Commenting after the visit, Jenny Gilruth MSP said:

“I was absolutely delighted to pay Andy and Fiona a visit to Leslie Bike Shop. The range of bike’s on offer has certainly changed since my first Rayleigh bluebird bike many years ago! I am grateful to Andy for explaining the complex work involved in bike maintenance.

“Small businesses are invaluable to the local economy across Fife, supporting jobs and growth in our communities. It’s fantastic to see 7,354 small businesses in Fife benefiting from the Scottish Government’s Small Business Bonus Scheme.

Small Business Saturday is an excellent opportunity for us to show how much we value local businesses in across the Kingdom. With Christmas just round the corner, people should use Small Business Saturday to get out and support our local retailers”.

Through the Scottish Government’s Small Business Bonus Scheme, 7,354 in Fife will benefit from a cap to their business rates bills for the next four years.

The planned expansion of the scheme means that local businesses, including hotels, will see rates capped at a maximum of 12.5% in real terms each year until 1st April 2022.
