JENNY GILRUTH MSP BLAMES RISE IN VISITORS TO LOCAL FOODBANK ON TORY WELFARE CUTS

Published date : 24 Oct 2017

Following Levenmouth Foodbank’s urgent appeal for more donations this week, local MSP for Mid-Fife and Glenrothers, Jenny Gilruth, has hit out blaming Conservative austerity policies.

According to the Trussell Trust, the number of people depending on foodbanks to get by is at an all-time high in Scotland.

Ms Gilruth has urged the local community to donate to Levenmouth Foodbank – located at Methil Parish Church on Monday and Friday’s between 4pm – 6pm.

Jenny Gilruth MSP commented:

“This is yet another example of the effect that relentless Tory austeriy is having on Scottish communities.

Sadly, I have little doubt that the UK Government’s roll out of Universal Credit may only force more people to become reliant on foodbanks as they are stretched further by cuts to vital support.

I am urging people in out local area to donate what the can to the foodbank to provide a lifeline to members of the Levenmouth community who are struggling to get by.”
