JENNY GILRUTH MSP & STEPHEN GETHINS MP PROMOTE SCOTTISH FOOD FORTNIGHT

Published date : 08 Sep 2017

LOCAL POLITICIANS SEEK TO RAISE AWARENESS OF HIGH-QUALITY LOCAL FOOD & DRINK

Jenny Gilruth MSP has teamed up with Stephen Gethins MP to help promote local food and drink in Fife at a visit to Blacketyside Farm in Leven.

The visit took place to mark the Scottish Food Fortnight, which began on Saturday 2nd September and will run until Sunday 17th September. The event is encouraging everyone to get behind local Scottish produce. The #onethingfortnight campaign is encouraging people to switch to a Scottish brand or product in their shop of the duration of the fortnight.

Jenny and Stephen, who both represent communities in Leven, are hoping their visit will help highlight the quality of produce on their constituents’ doorsteps.

Commenting, Jenny Gilruth MSP said:

“All over the world, Scotland’s food and drink products are renowned for their quality, yet many people in Fife don’t know just how many fantastic food and drink products are produced here locally. While it’s easy to overlook them with so many supermarket brands, some of the best food in Scotland is made right here on our doorstep.

“The Scottish Food Fortnight is a great way to support local businesses here in Scotland and to celebrate our fantastic food heritage and culture. I’m proud to be backing the #onethingfortnight campaign. It’s a fantastic way to encourage people to try Scottish brands they not have considered before, and to experience more of the fantastic food and drink that Scotland produces.”

North East Fife MP Stephen Gethins, who is a great supporter of food and drink producers in the constituency and has showcased local producer at Westminster, said:

“This area has the very highest quality food and drink and we should be very proud of that. Scottish Food Fortnight is a great way for local farms and food producers to showcase their products and I know a lot of hard work has been put in by the likes of Food from Fife and Fife Farmers’ Markets, as well as farm shops like Blacketyside, to make it easier for the public to buy locally grown produce.”
