GLENROTHES MSP RAISES TOWN’S 70th ANNIVERSARY IN HOLYROOD

Glenrothes MSP Jenny Gilruth this week raised the town’s 70th anniversary in the Scottish Parliament. Gilruth also paid tribute to David Nelson in Holyrood, who sadly passed away last Monday.

The Cabinet Secretary for Culture, Tourism & External Affairs, Fiona Hyslop MSP responded: ‘Anniversaries of towns should not just be about the physical place – as it is the people that make the place – people such as David Nelson’. The Cabinet Secretary joined Ms Gilruth in sending condolences to the Nelson family. Ms Gilruth has now secured a meeting with the Cabinet Secretary as a result. Commenting the MSP said: ‘Glenrothes’ 70th Birthday this year is an opportunity for the town. I’m delighted the Scottish Government is taking this anniversary seriously. I look forward to meeting with the Cabinet Secretary to discuss how the Government can work with Fife Council to ensure this anniversary is celebrated fittingly’.

The MSP has also lodged a motion in the Scottish Parliament celebrating the life of David Nelson and his tenacious commitment to Glenrothes..

That the Parliament pays tribute to the life and work of David Nelson, a true community champion of Glenrothes, who has sadly passed away; extends its sympathies to his wife, Maureen, and his children, Vicky and David, and recognises his commitment to Glenrothes as a founder member of the Auchmuty Tenants Association and Glenrothes Area Residents Federation, his drive to ensure that a new CISWO was built and completed, his successful court challenge to the so-called bedroom tax and his total and absolute commitment to the people of Auchmuty and Glenrothes.
