GLENROTHES MSP RAISES ALLAN BRYANT CASE IN PARLIAMENT

Glenrothes MSP, Jenny Gilruth, yesterday raised the case of missing person Allan Bryant in the Scottish Parliament.

Allan Bryant Jnr was last seen outside Styx nightclub on Caskieberran Road in Glenrothes just after 2 am on the 3rd of November 2013.

Following an update from the Scottish Government’s Minister for Community Safety, Ash Denham MSP, regarding the National Missing Persons Framework Scotland, Ms Gilruth took the opportunity to speak on behalf of the Bryant family almost five years on from Allan’s disappearance.

Speaking in the chamber, the MSP said:

“Five years on, Allan’s family are no closer to finding out what happened to their son. Whilst I welcome the missing persons framework in principle, will the Minister outline what support is available for families of long-term missing people, and will she commit to look again at how the strategy is implemented in practice to assist families like the Bryant’s who live with the daily torture of a loved one being missing?”

The Government’s Community Safety Minister assured Ms Gilruth that Police Scotland does not close missing persons cases and that Mr Bryant’s case remains open, adding that ‘Police Scotland will continue to investigate any new information that it receives’.

The Minister said:

“The national missing persons framework recognises the need to support the families of missing people. I believe that we are moving in the right direction, but there is more work to do.”

Launched in 2017, the National Missing Persons Framework is the first of its kind in Scotland, backed by significant Scottish Government investment to help develop training and raise awareness of missing persons cases’.

Commenting Allan Bryant Snr, Mr Bryant’s Father, said:

“It’s now almost five years since Allan’s disappearance. I’d like to thank Jenny for raising awareness of Allan’s case, and others like it, in the Scottish Parliament.

“At the moment there is no support network for families of the long term missing in Scotland. More can, and should, be done to improve support for families like ours through the Missing Person’s Framework.”

Jenny Gilruth MSP will now meet with Minister later in the year to discuss the case further.
