GLENROTHES MSP LAUNCHES SCHOOL INTERNSHIP SCHEME

Published date : 24 Jan 2020

Paid internship opportunities will be offered to one senior pupil from every high school in Glenrothes

Glenrothes MSP, Jenny Gilruth, has today, Friday 24 January, launched her Schools Internship Scheme 2020 to give one senior pupil from each high school in her constituency an insight into a local MSP’s office.

Ms Gilruth launched her internship scheme with headteacher, Mrs Avril McNeill, at Glenrothes High School.

Ms Gilruth is inviting applications from S5 and S6 pupils at Glenrothes High School, Auchmuty High School and Glenwood High School by Friday 7 February 2020.

Applications from Modern Studies pupils are welcome, but the scheme is not exclusively for those studying Modern Studies.

Pupils are asked to provide a short CV and covering letter to explain their interest in Scottish Politics and local issues in the area and why they think they should be given the opportunity to undertake an internship in the local MSP’s office.

The internships will take place in June 2020 and will be based in both Jenny’s constituency office in Markinch and the Scottish Parliament.

As a Living Wage employer, Ms Gilruth will ensure each intern is paid the living wage whilst working for her.

Commenting, Jenny Gilruth MSP said:

“Our high schools in Glenrothes are growing the future talent and leaders we need to ensure our town and nation’s continued success.

“I am delighted to be able to offer this opportunity locally and I am looking forward to working with pupils from all three high schools in Glenrothes. The successful applicants will have a full and varied programme when they join my hardworking team to support my work on behalf of my constituents.

Glenrothes High School Headteacher, Mrs Avril McNeill, said:

“I am delighted to support Jenny’s schools internship scheme and actively encourage all interested senior pupils at Glenrothes High School to apply by the 7 February deadline.

“The successful candidates will gain invaluable work experience, a boost to their CVs and an insight into how our democracy works. Our young people will also have the opportunity to transfer skills for learning, life and work that they have developed in school, and apply them in the workplace whilst contributing to the work of our local MSP.”

To apply, please email your short CV along with a cover letter explaining why you would like the opportunity of an internship in Jenny’s office and what interests you about the work of an MSP to james.wilson@parliament.scot by Friday 7th February 2020.
