EXCLUSIVE: TRANSPORT SCOTLAND TO CONSIDER ROUNDABOUT FOR A92

Today (Wednesday) Scottish Government Transport Minister, Humza Yousaf MSP, met with Glenrothes MSP Jenny Gilruth and local campaigners from North Glenrothes Community Council at a site visit to the A92. The visit comes on the back of December’s walk of the ‘Five Hazards’ with local elected members and following a visit in Holyrood between campaigners, the local MSP and the Minister last March.

Commenting after the site visit and meeting with North Glenrothes Community Council members, Humza Yousaf MSP said:

“I thank Jenny and NGCC (North Glenrothes Community Council) for their invitation to visit the Balfarg & Cadham junctions.

I found today’s visit extremely insightful and constructive. I am pleased we are progressing with an options study to explore what interventions can be made at the necessary junctions – we anticipate this will be completed by Summer.

I have agreed to meet again with Jenny Gilruth and NGCC to update them once the study is complete.”

The town’s MSP welcomed the news that the campaign for road improvements on this stretch of the A92 is now moving forwards. Jenny Gilruth said:

‘I am extremely grateful to the Transport Minister for today’s site visit of the A92 and for meeting, once more, with the local campaigners who have been driving this forward.

Today marks a pivotal point in the campaign with a commitment to move the options study forward. I was glad to hear that one of the options now being considered is a roundabout at the Balfarg junction. As a Markinch resident I know only too well the difficulties and the dangers associated with that stretch of the road; so I welcome today’s news and I look forward to working with the campaigners when the results of the study publish in the Summer.

I would like to put on record my thanks to all the members of North Glenrothes Community Council for their tenacious efforts on improving road safety on the A92. I look forward to meeting with the Transport Minister and NGCC members following the publication of the options study in the Summer’.

Transport Scotland have committed to publishing the options study in consultation with all stakeholders, by Summer 2018. The MSP received a confirmation that this would be done in consultation with Community Council members.
