SCOTTISH CHILDCARE MINISTER & LOCAL MSPS VISIT FIFE GINGERBREAD

SPECIAL ‘QUESTION TIME’ Q&A SESSION WITH PARKHILL PRIMARY SCHOOL PUPILS
The Scottish Government’s Minister for Childcare & Early Years Mark McDonald MSP joined local MSPs Jenny Gilruth and David Torrance for a special ‘Question Time’ Q&A session with Parkhill Primary School pupils at a visit to local Levenmouth charity Fife Gingerbread.
Pupils from the school’s Rights Respecting Committee fielded a number of questions to the MSPs, with topics such as life as an MSP, issues for young people and how best to work together to take care of local communities being discussed.
The event took place as part of an open day marking the first year of Fife Gingerbread moving to its new home at the Greig Institute. The Greig Institute also houses Citizens Advice & Rights Fife and Addaction. Fife Gingerbread assists families across Levenmouth in both the Mid Fife & Glenrothes and Kirkcaldy constituencies.
Commenting, the MSP for Mid Fife & Glenrothes, Jenny Gilruth said:
“I’ve been looking forward to this event! It was a lot of fun to take questions from the pupils and I was highly impressed with the standard of questions being asked. I hope the kids learned a lot and continue to take an interest in politics going forward.
“I’m grateful for the Childcare & Early Years Minister for taking the time to visit the pupils here in Leven. As a former teacher, I know how important it is for politicians to engage with young people and to make sure they feel listened to. Events like this are a great way to help make that happen and I’d encourage more of my MSP colleagues to make sure they take the time to talk to their youngest constituents.
“Since being elected in May last year, I’ve made it a priority to visit all the schools in my constituency. I’ve written to the Headteacher of Parkhill Primary School and am hoping to be making a visit there very soon!”
2017 marks the 30th anniversary of Fife Gingerbread, which supports and empowers vulnerable single parents and families across Levenmouth through partnership working. The charity runs a number of projects, including: The Gateway, and early intervention programme; the Fife Teen Parent Project, which supports teenage parents in Fife; Making it Work, an employability partnership project, and much more.
Jenny Gilruth MSP added:
“I’m delighted that Fife Gingerbread are celebrating their first year at the Greig Institute. Having these local charities working together under one roof is having a beneficial impact by helping them to work together to support service users. I’d like to congratulate all the charities here on making the move such a success.”
