MSP AND MP JOIN FORCES TO REQUEST URGENT MEETING WITH CLYDESDALE BANK FOLLOWING CLOSURE ANNOUNCEMENT
Published date : 19 Jan 2017
Following the announcement that the Leven branch of the Clydesdale Bank is to close in June, Mid Fife and Glenrothes MSP Jenny Gilruth and North East Fife MP Stephen Gethins have requested an urgent meeting with senior officials to discuss the issue and the possible implications of the closure.
In a joint statement Ms Gilruth and Mr Gethins said: “It is very disappointing when any community loses vital services like banking.
“Many local people have valued the local service and have built up a relationship with local staff, will be disadvantaged by the move to Glenrothes.
“Some people, particularly the elderly, disabled and those without their own transport, will also face practical and financial challenges travelling to Glenrothes.
“While we understand the needs of a modern bank to adapt to changing customer needs, it is not always the case these days that people can or are confident on banking online or over the telephone.
“We have now written to the Clydesdale Bank asking for an urgent meeting with them to discuss this decision and the implications it will have for people in Leven and the surrounding communities.”
